Synopsis

Jeremy Heere is just an average teenager. That is, until he finds out about “The Squip” — a tiny supercomputer that promises to bring him everything he desires most: a date with Christine, an invite to the raddest party of the year and a chance to survive life in his suburban New Jersey high school. But is being the most popular guy in school worth the risk?

BE MORE CHILL has been praised as “a high-energy, imaginative, well-crafted world premiere musical” in The Star-Ledger and has been lauded as “a vibrant, inventive musical that makes the most of every moment” by BroadwayWorld.

MEET OUR

creative team

Benjamin Tubb-Hearne

Director.

Ben has burst onto the Brisbane Musical Theatre primarily as a Musical Director, and although Be More Chill will mark his Brisbane Directing debut, he is beyond excited to bring this technological thriller to life! Previous directing experience includes ‘Xanadu’, ‘Mulan’, ‘Honk’, ‘The Little Mermaid’ and ‘The Little Mermaid’.

Having musically directed over 40 shows including ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Kinky Boots’, ‘Chicago’ and ‘The King and I’ to name just a few, Ben is in demand as a musical director and currently sits on the board of Phoenix Ensemble, proud of the high calibre of shows it puts on.

He is so excited to be working with two powerhouses in Hayley and Julianne and cannot wait to start this journey with an amazing cast & crew.

Hayley Marsh

Musical Director.

Hayley Marsh is a Brisbane based music director, vocal clinician and performing arts teacher. She has a strong background in classical and choral music and trained on cello before moving to voice at the Central Queensland Conservatorium, where she studied music theatre. Hayley went on to study dance full time at Theatre & Dance and has performed in many amateur, ami-pro and professional productions across Queensland. She has performed with and conducted choirs across Australia, and is the current director of both the Queensland Young Voices, the flagship youth choir of Queensland Show Choir, and women’s a capella chorus Brisbane City Sounds. In 2018 she was nominated twice for Best Musical Director of a Community Theatre Musical by the Gold Palm Theatre Awards for her work on Carrie and Shrek: the Musical respectively. Hayley is passionate about supporting the performing careers of men and boys in music & theatre, and is raising up the next generation of performers as a primary music educator.

Julianne Clinch

Choreographer.

Julianne began dancing more than 30 years ago and has performed in over 50 productions in a wide range of styles from children’s theatre to Burlesque and almost everything in between. She completed a Bachelor of Music Theatre at Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music in 2003. Since then Julianne has performed in many shows both in Australia and overseas. She has been teaching music, dance, and drama to children and adults for the past 12 years and currently works as an arts specialist supply teacher. Julianne was lucky enough to meet her husband while performing in Sven Swenson’s The Truth About Kookaburras (Pentimento Productions/La Boite) in 2012. Julianne has been dance captain on a number of productions including The Little Mermaid and The Witches of Eastwick for Phoenix Ensemble.

Her choreographic credits include Scissors, Paper, Rock : The Musical (Underground Productions), as well as numerous cabaret shows and children’s theatre productions. It is a dream come true to work on a Joe Iconis musical and she can’t wait to Be More Chill in 2020.
